You just want to get started sending newsletters but how on earth is it so difficult to find a good platform that doesn't cost a fortune and works well!

Hello and welcome to episode 19 of the Online Business Tech Hub. We took quite a bit of a long break since June, but I want to be completely honest. I really needed some time off. I needed time to center myself to refocus and really disconnect for a while and try and understand how I can move forward in the autumn and then in 2022 because guys, I don't know if you know...If you have been following me on social media, but next year I'm getting married and I'm planning not one wedding but two weddings. One here in Finland, tiny and intimate, and one in Italy with all the family and friends and so on.
So I kind of had to adjust to planning these two big events. Plus, of course, understanding what lights me up, what is important for me to work on and what helps me grow and scale my business.
So that's the reason for this long break and it was really useful. It has been extremely fruitful for me to take this time off. And today I'm back with episode 19, 3 good reasons why it's time to invest in a good newsletter platform even if you're starting out just now in your online business.
Okay, I want to share with you the reasons that I think are the most important when you are about to pick a newsletter platform because the problem is that many, many people when they are starting out, they are being advised to start with Mailchimp, but Mailchimp, as you know, it's not really the most amazing platform out there.
If you have been listening to the previous season, you know that I really don't like MailChimp and I absolutely don't recommend it. And there are much better platforms out there. In this episode I'm also going to tell you a bit about it. So before we dive into the topic, the hot topic of today. First, let me introduce myself in case this is the first episode you are listening and you have no clue about who I am and what I do.

Alright, let's dive into the 3 good reasons why it's time to invest in a good newsletter platform even if you're starting out just now in the online space. Reason number 1, when you have a good platform, a good newsletter platform, this means that you have in your hands one of the easiest and fastest way to create a list of people that are interested in what you do. In your services, in your products, and they are the perfect potential clients. You can provide a free resource in exchange for their email address, and that is actually the easiest way.
And why do I think this is a reason for picking a good newsletter platform?
Because with a good platform, it means that you can set up a very simple email automation where you can thank on autopilot the new subscribers who have downloaded your free resource automatically. Okay. You can start to build this trust relationship with your email subscriber. Not all the platforms let you do even this basic automation. So it's a good idea when you invest your time or your money or both on a newsletter platform, to pick one that lets you create this basic automation.
Very, very simple. It's very simple to set up, and if you are having trouble setting up, you know that you can always reach out to me, and I will be happy to help you out, whether with a Power hour or with the email marketing intensive sessions. So a good platform lets you create email automation that you can use to welcome your email subscribers after they have signed up for your newsletter or have downloaded your free resource.
Reason number 2, when you pick a good platform, you can segment your list of subscribers. Segmenting means to break down in smaller groups according to different conditions. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you might want to listen to Episode 9, which is about newsletter jargon, and it explains all these words like segmentation.
So, segmentation, is breaking down your list in smaller chunks so that you can send customized content. And this customized content can be based on the behavior of the email subscriber. For example, if they clicked, or if they clicked on a specific link, for example, a sales page of a product or a service you're offering, and you want to follow up with them. Or it might be a segmentation based on interest. Let's say that you have two, three, four different free resources, and they have downloaded one or two that are, let's say, in the same macro category.
So you want to send target content, customized content, based on the interest that they have expressed by downloading those freebies. Okay. So this is really useful when you have a good platform. With a good newsletter platform, you can segment your content, and this will also help you understand better your email subscriber because you can, for example, this is maybe a bit more advanced, something that you maybe wouldn't do at the beginning. But when you have been in business for a while, you can obviously save the contacts that have been buying a specific service or an online course.
And so when you do again, the promotion for the same product or service that these contacts have already bought. You obviously want to exclude them from the promotion. It doesn't make any sense that they are being bombarded again with launch emails if they have already bought this program, this online course, this service from you, that is also segmentation.
Reason number 3. With a good newsletter platform, you can start testing and really check what works best for you and your subscribers so you can do the split tests or A/B test. Again, if you have no idea what I'm talking about episode 9 about the newsletter jargon. So, you can test the subject line, you can send the same newsletter, but it has a different subject line and you can see which one performs better. Which one has better open rates, or you can make some changes in the text itself. In the body of the email, you can maybe change fonts. You can try different formatting, you can add images and you can see which one performs better. You can see which email has the most clicks for example.
Okay, this is all really important data that helps, you know and understand your subscribers a lot better because you gain information about their behavior, their preferences. You also learn, for example, when you test the subject lines, you learn what works better, what is most intriguing and appealing for your subscribers. And this is gold. This is absolutely gold information, because when you know what your subscribers like, then you can create more of that type of content. That is really, really important.
Now, before we wrap up with this very first episode, let's cover briefly which newsletter platforms are the best ones out there, especially when you're starting out.
So in my opinion, when you're starting out, the best platform out there is MailerLite because you can start for free and you can have up to 1000 contacts with the free plan. It's very easy to set up. They have really well done video tutorials. Their customer service is extremely helpful and already with the free plan, you have basic automations.
You have lovely landing pages and opt in templates. And generally speaking, I think it's also very easy to use. So all my clients that have been always a bit challenged by technology after a very brief learning curve, they have been using very efficiently MailerLite. So if you're starting out that's the platform I recommend using because it has everything you need and you get to start for free.
The other platform I recommend when you have been in business for a while and you need a lot more flexibility is ActiveCampaign.

So you've got to work with a platform that is actually going to help you scale and grow your business, a platform that will help you create trust with your email subscribers. That will help you send personalized content to your email subscribers and also test and gather important data on the behavior and the interest of your email subscriber. Okay, so that's it for today.
